RIDDINGS

Thursday 29th February 2024 
We began the year singing at the funeral of Joan Parker  in St James Church Riddings. Together with 3 hymns chosen by the family, we also sang" Softly as I leave you" (Matt Monroe) and the fine welsh hymn "Gwahoddiad"
​The fine acoustics of the church enhanced he choir's delightfully controlled singing.

Jacksdale

 Friday 12th April
We started the year by giving our customary First Concert of the Year at the choir's home; the Dale Club in Jacksdale NG16 5JU . happily we sang to a full house


eastwood

Saturday April 27th We planned to continue a good start to the year by presenting a concert jointly with
Eastwood Collieries Male Voice Choir. This took  place in St Marys Church, Eastwood on
Saturday 25th March and was a great success, both choirs acquitting themselves very well indeed.

As usual on our annual holiday we gave 2 Concerts in the re-built chapel in the Beamish Open-Air  Museum and also visited places of interest.

SHIRLAND, Alfreton

Saturday June 22nd @ 6.00pm
​
In support of their roof appeal, at St. Leonard's Church, Shirland, we gave an exceptionally successful concert   arranged through the auspices of our Accompanist,​Ms Tracy Turner, the choir sang beautifully, as did our soloists: David Gee, Dave Braithwait, Ron Rack, David Riley and Colin Smith with Chairman John PrItchard offering some amusing poetry!
             The Concert is appropriately titled:
               RAISE THE ROOF CONCERT!
AND WE RAISED OVER £500 TOWARDS THEIR FUND.

ANNESLEY

Saturday 20th July: we gave  a concert at All Saints Church, Annesley  NG15 0AJ 
​
at 7.00pm. It was well received by a large number in the audience. We all enjoyed splendid refreshments which re-fuelled us nicely for the second half of our programme. 

dixies arms - bagthorpe

​
We sang a concert in the Dixies Arms at 7.00pm to entertain folks and encourage others to join us. Everyone welcome!

Somercotes

Saturday 19th October: A special concert recognising David Braithwait's 30 years of singing with the Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir, The concert was performed to  in St Thomas Parish Church, Somercotes, to a full church.
 The concert was conducted by a selection of current and previous MD's 
The audience  comprised members of Dave's family, family friends, singers from other choirs in friendship with PHMVC.
This was a Charity Concert with proceeds of over £1000 going to Prostate Cancer UK.

Congratulations to Claire Jennings, Partner to John Hickman (Baritone) on her completing the London Marathon this year. Members of the choir were amongst her many sponsors as she raised money for her chosen charity: MIND.

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME!

We are very pleased to have welcomed Ms Tracy Turner as our new choir accompanist, Mrs Rosemary Jones retired from accompanying us  at the end of January and Ms Turner has now taken over

New Uniform: We are also very pleased to be announcing a  new light-weight uniform for the choir which will be on show this year at some of our concerts

Commemoration: We are pleased to be celebrating the choir's121st year in 2024,  we are believed to be one of the oldest continuing Male Voice Choirs in the Country and we have commemorative mugs for sale @ £5.50p each; Available from the choir on Monday evenings at the Dale Club in Jacksdale.

Local: Some of our recent  local venues have included: Alfreton, Brinsley, Codnor, Eastwood, Forest Town, Hucknall, Ilkeston, Jacksdale, Matlock, Ripley, Sandiacre, Somercotes, Swanwick, South Normanton, Underwood, Riddings & Bagthorpe

​Further afield: We have also given concerts in
Croydon and in Woking, in Great Yarmouth area,
in Durham and Beamish and in Devon.

In 2017 we sang in Wales, home of Male Voice singing! 
​In 2018 we gave concerts on the Isle of Wight.

In 2023 we sang concerts in the Lake District.​
In 2024 we are returning to sing at the Beamish Open-Air Museum


Social Events are arranged at various times during the year for members, families and friends. These are always ‘good fun’ occasions! Many family members and friends attend our concerts too.
