Invitation to Join
The Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir Est: 1903
The Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir are inviting both experienced and non-experienced men of all ages, who have a love of singing, to join them under the leadership of their Musical Director, Mr Dave Gibbon. This is an exciting period of transition for the choir which will see the introduction of contemporary music, to blend with its traditional choral favourites, hymns, classics, and songs from the shows.
All voices are welcome from bass (low voices) to tenors (high voices) and others between. If you don’t know where your voice will fit in, this is not a problem as we will help you. There is always room for everyone, with an open-door invitation!
Although the choir aim to sing without music, where possible, it understands that new singers and, in some cases, experienced singers, may need the support of music and lyrics. Only a few existing choir members read music, but members learn how to follow music over time. If you already sing with other choirs, you are welcome to also sing with the PH&DMVC. A number of existing members also sing with other male voice choirs, church choirs and community mixed voice choirs. It’s all about the love of singing, but we do offer something special.
Singing is a social activity for all ages. However, recognising that young men have many interests, we have decided to invite young men up to age 25 to sing entirely free to encourage and experience the joy of four-part male voice choral singing. For older males, the first three months subs are waived to encourage you to give it a go.
You will also enjoy the social side to the choir and make new friends. The most difficult challenge is walking through the door for the first time. Once you’ve done this and felt reassured from the welcome you will receive, you will quickly feel at home.
It is well known that singing is good for both physical and mental health and when it all comes together, and you experience singing in harmony with others, it will make you feel happy and put a smile on your face.
Please accept this invitation and come along to the Dale Club, Jacksdale, NG16 5HR, on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m., where we will be delighted to see you. There are no singing tests, just help from individuals who want to make your experience as easy and enjoyable as possible.
Each year we organise a choir holiday (a concert-giving trip). In the past we have stayed in such places as Durham, South Wales, Torquay, Surrey, Isle of Wight, Norfolk etc. The trips are entirely voluntary, but many singers and their wives/partners join in and experience some great fun occasions on the tours.
Already this year we have been on tour to the Lake District, performed at Derby Cathedral with other choirs, taken part in a variety of other concerts and raised money for charities and good causes. Together we can make a real difference to the communities we are part of and further afield. Please see past concerts on our website below.
If you require any further information, please phone Malcolm Hill on 01773 – 602743 or 07410 365306. I look forward to hearing from you.
